Mother Neff State Park

Located about 35 minutes from Waco, Texas.
On a warm July day we decided to take the scenic route and stop by Mother Neff State Park on our way to Austin. Mother Neff State Park is located in central Texas near Waco.  It was the first state park in the Texas Parks system.

As we drove into the park we were impressed by the new visitor's center. After a long road trip, restrooms were in need.  How pleasantly surprised we were to find pristine restrooms!  As a frequent visitor to Texas state parks I know sometimes you find restrooms that are old and stale.

Adjoining the restrooms, across the breezeway, is the visitor's center. There we met the nicest ranger.  I wish I had gotten her name because she was very helpful. We spent about fifteen minutes visiting with the ranger about the park and surrounding communities. There is also a children's area, gift shop, and museum located in the visitor center.

With map in hand we headed out to explore the park. Mother Neff State Park has 259 acres to explore.  Within the boundaries of the park you will find about 3.5 miles of hiking trails. The day we visited we were only able to hike the cave trail. The cave trail is a short distance from parking down  fairly steep rocks.  A hand rail is available for those who need it. The cave was used by the Tonkawa Indian tribe.

Mother Neff State Park has great campsites including 20 new full hookup with cement pad and large gathering area campsites.  Near the campsites you will find a children's nature area with a trail to the playground. Also near the campsites you will find a brand new bathhouse.

Mother Neff State Park would be a great place to ride bicycles as the roads are flat and shaded just past the campsites loop.

The entrance fees for Mother Neff State Park are $2 per person aged 13 and up and free for children under the age of 13. You can also get an annual pass for $70 per year that will give you and everyone in your vehicle free entrance to any Texas state park for one year.

If you are looking for a place to go on your next trip, whether it be a day trip or a camping trip, Mother Neff State Park has something for you.

May God bless you on every journey!
